SetKitCore · The shared screenplay engine

A script is a structure.
We start there.

Behind Sidesy, Abby and Propp is one foundation for understanding a screenplay. Different tools can concentrate on their own job because they share the work of reading scenes, characters, dialogue and pages.

(the part you don’t have to think about)

A. From file to working tool

How SetKitCore connects screenplay files to the apps

  1. 01 · The source

    Bring the script.

    PDF · Final Draft
    Fountain · Fade In

  2. 02 · The foundation

    SetKitCore

    Scenes. Characters.
    Dialogue. Pages.

  3. 03 · The job

    Use the tool.

    Sidesy · Abby · Propp
    Each with its own workflow.

Formats are supported by the engine; each app exposes the formats its workflow needs. Image-only scanned PDFs need OCR first.

B. What the engine handles

One foundation.
Less work repeated.

01

Read the file

Parsers for text-based PDF, Final Draft, Fountain and Fade In bring different formats into a shared screenplay model.

02

Recognise the script

Identify scene headings, character cues, action and dialogue. Keep the structure the apps need to work with a screenplay rather than a block of text.

03

Keep the page reference

Preserve source page information from PDF and calculate pagination for structured screenplay formats using the same layout engine that renders the pages.

04

Put it back on paper

Render screenplay PDFs with screenplay typography, margins and page layout. Shared rendering keeps page calculations and exported pages in step.

05

Find the revision

Compare screenplay versions and identify added, changed and removed material. The app decides how to show those changes in its own workflow.

06

Prepare the handover

Shared splitting, scene-to-page mapping and naming tools support the production documents an app needs to deliver.

C. Where it is used

Shared understanding.
Specific purposes.

SetKitCore is the screenplay foundation for these three apps. Mapp and Workk do their own work without depending on it.

Prepare the pages

Sidesy

Use the script’s scenes, characters and page boundaries to prepare sides and compare revisions.

Read with context

Abby

Build the scene index and adaptable reader on the screenplay model, with useful page references and revision information.

Plan the screen action

Propp

Read scenes and characters from an imported script. Propp’s own detection then proposes the phone screens and content for review.

A foundation inside the apps

The engine runs
where the app runs.

SetKitCore processes screenplay files on the device. It is not a shared cloud library or a service that collects your scripts. Storage and synchronisation belong to each app: Sidesy works locally; Abby and Propp can use iCloud for their libraries or projects.
